Animal Farm: An Analysis

Animal Farm: An Analysis ‘Animal Farm’ is a novel dependent on the Russian Revolution, about a gathering of animals needing to defy man. Snowball a keen, reasonable and solid pioneer gets governed over by Napoleon, an out of line and egotistical pioneer. This was the primary blunder in the resistance. Snowball would have disobediently improved a pioneer than Napoleon. The explanations behind this are he instructed the creatures, had future financial plans and realized how to keep a reasonable and savvy network. Snowball really puts stock in Old Majors message of animal fairness and shared penance for shared addition, thus his thoughts speak to an endeavor to make a similarly working homestead. In spite of the fact that he shares the early extravagances of the pigs, for example, the milk and apples which are kept from different creatures, he attempts to improve things for different creatures with innovative advances like the windmill. Napoleon then again was an a significant opposite picture, he was childish coldblooded and degenerate. He would think about his and the pigs intrigue first and afterward that of different animals and the homestead. His method of administering was imbalance, totally in spite of the lessons of the Old Major and the Seven Commandments. Napoleon can be compared to Napoleon Bonaparte for his high aspiration and his standard by dread and power. This political parody gives knowledge into two kinds of administration; the majority rule, Snowball, and the narcissist, Napoleon. They were the two chiefs of the unrest that occurred at the ranch in the start of the story. Napoleon is viewed as the very one who talked seldom and just when totally required. Snowball then again was a charmer and had the option to catch the consideration of the group with his words. He was brimming with new plans to improve the lifestyle in the homestead. As history has demonstrated a narcissist chief, for instance Adolf Hitler, is never a decent pioneer. For somebody to turn into a decent pioneer the individual needs to think about the entirety of the individuals he is speaking to yet when somebody just thinks about themselves they will get degenerate and soon their decision will end horrendously. Snowball was committed to the decrees and urged the creatures to tail it to the spot. He attempts strategies to improve the manner in which the creatures lived by beginning different clubs and attempting to show the creatures to peruse and compose. Napoleon then again just embraces a couple of puppies and shows them on private. Nobody in the ranch realizes what he is doing. A significant factor in their administration of the homestead was that they never concurred with one another. At whatever point, Snowball came out with his intricate plans to improve ranch life Napoleon remained against it. In any case, more often than not Snowball had the option to prevail upon the help of the creatures with his magnetic character and play with words. He had the option to prevail upon them with soothing talk and some measure of thinking. He attempted to get the animals associated with the dynamic through a democratic framework and consequently had a progressively participative way to deal with ru nning the homestead. Napoleon then again wanted to direct and coordinate things. He was bad at getting the creatures on his side with his discussion. Since he realized that he would not be in authority of the homestead will Snowball was around he disposed of Snowball. He utilizes another pig called Squealer to talk for his sake and deceive the creatures into accepting that everything Snowball did was destructive. Squealer was likewise used to enlighten extraordinary stories regarding Napoleon. Napoleon’s imperious style of authority, with falsehoods and stories driving the homestead, leave the creatures befuddled. In any case, they continue with their work more enthusiastically than any other time in recent memory. He is a narcissist who makes the creatures work chiefly for his own advantage. At the point when an examination is made between the authority of these two pigs Snowball comes out as a fair head while Napoleon comes out as a despot. Snowball came out with smart thoughts and consistently introduced it to the creatures for a vote. He is a pioneer who can raise the whole gathering, including himself, into more significant levels of ethical quality, inspiration and thought processes. He raised the persuasive degree of the livestock with his motivating addresses and drove them to work and battle for freedom and the improvement of the ranch in which he excessively effectively took part. Then again Napoleon was degenerate and with bogus cases he constrained his choices on the creatures. There was no democratic or any recommendations taken from the creatures. They were persuaded that everything that was going on was to their benefit and made to accomplish twofold work with lesser compensation. All that he did at long last wound up in profiting him and the pigs however n ot different animals of the ranch. Since Napoleon just thought about himself he was unable to turn into the more noteworthy pioneer on the ranch. Snowball thought of the considerable number of creatures as equivalent and helped the creatures however Napoleon just debases the creatures to get anything he desired. A narcissist style of administration is never a decent method to govern in light of the fact that at some point or another the individuals that the pioneer is administering over will get some answers concerning his degenerate ways and kick the pioneer out of his decision. In general Snowball was a superior head than Napoleon. Snowball demonstrated bunches of the characteristics of a decent pioneer. He was a decent speaker and audience, reasonable, gave productive analysis and was a good example to different creatures. On Sundays when the animals had their gatherings Snowball would give incredible discourses and make recommendations on approaches to make the Animal Farm a superior spot. He announced notes to ensure everybody concurred and tuned in to different people’s feelings. In any case, Napoleon in the long run chose to drop all Sunday gatherings and settle on his own choices without examining. On the off chance that creatures made some noise and differ they would no doubt be butchered by Napoleons monitor hounds. This is against all ethics of good administration. Snowball additionally taught the creatures with the goal that they could accomplish more and show their next ages. Snowball was a vastly improved pioneer than Napoleon since he up held training while Napoleon thought it was superfluous. Instruction is the way to almost everything and if the animals could peruse and compose they would have the option to assist more on the homestead and they would show signs of improvement comprehension of what is happening. They could peruse books on the most proficient method to run a ranch and on the world also and compose things to different animals or individuals. The most significant distinction between these two creature pioneers isn't their conduct yet their convictions, Snowball having confidence in what could be portrayed as Democratic Communism and Napoleon following Dictatorship. This significant contrast between the thoughts of these two pigs prompted the abolishment and slandering of Snowball by Napoleon and his mutts. When Snowball was in Animal Farm the animals saw flourishing and harmony, in light of the fact that their pioneer needed to give the animals a superior life than in that of Joness time. Be that as it may, Our Leader, companion Napoleon(pg. 69) thought about nobody else however himself and force, he gave the lower apportions to the creatures than what they got when Jones was their lord. Prior the creatures used to decide on issues yet with the removal of Snowball their democratic rights and furthermore the gathering on Sundays were abrogated, their motivation Beasts of England was taboo, the creatures were brought under subjugation again without their insight. The contradicting pioneers in Animal Farm Napoleon and Snowball were constantly in opposition to one another and shared nothing for all intents and purpose other than the way that they were both acceptable pioneers. Snowball has some lead over Napoleon as in he was a vastly improved speaker than Napoleon was and he realized how to persuade the creatures. He was a philanthropic pioneer who demonstrated mental fortitude and gave moral help to the creatures. For a model, when Boxer had harmed a helper and everyone thought he was dead Snowball cheered them saying, No nostalgia, friend a war is war(Orwell pg. 49). He truly accepted that all creatures are equivalent and acted and worked for the solace of his confidants, he was a saint. Snowball is a cautious and purposeful scholar and has a sharp mind and ability for arranging and structure, the qualities that Napoleon later exploits. He is available to new thoughts and not effortlessly controlled, again things that Napoleon can't acknowledge and reasons why he later drives him from the homestead. His skill is later observed as a danger by Napoleon who will keep on utilizing him as a substitute after he drives him off the homestead. Snowball has good thoughts, he needs to bind together and teach the creatures. Snowball acts with extraordinary fortitude and mental fortitude going into the Battle of Cowshed with incredible methodology and altruism. On the off chance that we want a general public of harmony, at that point we can't accomplish such a general public through savagery. On the off chance that we want a general public without segregation, at that point we should not victimize anybody during the time spent structure this general public. In the event that we w ant a general public that is majority rule, at that point vote based system must turn into a methods just as an end.â

Oh, What a Year free essay sample

A lot of things can happen to a person in a year. A lot did happen to me last year. My junior year of high school caused many trials and tribulations; however, I came out of it a better person. To begin with, during football I fractured my back on both sides of the L3 vertebra. Before this, I used to train for football at least twice a week, focusing on making myself stronger and faster. These sessions, along with football practice every week night, made me work hard and had me on a schedule. I didn’t get diagnosed until after the football season however, because I didn’t realize how serious this injury was; I thought it was just a pulled muscle and would heal itself after the season ended. I was wrong. Once I got diagnosed, I was instructed to â€Å"be a couch potato† for six weeks, and then come back in for a follow-up progress examination. We will write a custom essay sample on Oh, What a Year or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page After those six weeks, I was cleared for physical therapy. Because of the fractures in my back, I was no longer on a schedule, and my work reflected it. My grades in school plummeted, from A’s and B’s to C’s and D’s and even a couple of F’s. I hated myself because I knew I could do so much better. Homework would be ignored, and studying would be â€Å"forgotten.† Without a schedule my life was like a leaf in the breeze, or a jellyfish in the ocean, I was so very lost. The tension between my mom and me grew, and I was yelled at every half marking period because of my ailing grades. I hated it, and my motivation to do better diminished, until I finally felt that I had hit rock bottom, I had gotten my first F and it was time to tell my parents, before the report cards came home. After I had told my parents I felt as if they had given up on me, that they were done caring about me and my school work, that I now had to fend for myself. That’s when it all hit me, I couldn’t accept failure, I had to persevere and come out on top. But my perseverance evaporated when my grandfather died. In April, after months of trying to do better, my grandfather died and that hit me and my whole family hard. I felt distraught and out of place, I had never lived a day without my grandfather. Every Wednesday he would come over for dinner with my family. It was the strangest feeling in the whole world. This feeling kept me preoccupied and in my head during school, preventing me from working, although I tried my hardest, it was to no avail. Some may let a year like this ruin them and their life, however, I refuse to let that happen. This year I have been more motivated than ever. I’ve completed every assignment I’ve been handed and haven’t skipped one study session. I’ve made sure that I understand all of my work, by asking my teachers questions and staying after for extra help on the things I don’t understand. I cannot accept failure and I won’t. Through all of these experiences, I learned so much about myself. I now know I need to be on a schedule to complete the tasks set out for me; I know that I am no quitter. I have also rekindled the fire that once burned inside of me to be the best I can be at everything that I do.

House-Sitting Puts Ink in the Travel Writers Pen

House-Sitting Puts Ink in the Travel Writers Pen Staying for extended stretches in exotic and culturally rich places for free? Then being paid for pieces you’ve written about your stay? Sounds unreal, but the reality is anything but: over the past several years I’ve spent one- to two-month periods in Hawaii, Mexico, Panama, the Bahamas and St. Vincent and the Grenadines with my sweetheart Alice, without paying a cent for lodging. With some careful prep, and an open eye and mind for stories when you get there, you can set yourself up for exciting travel- and even some green from writing about that excitement. Finding the Opportunities For the past few years,  mindmyhouse.com  has been our house-sitting site of choice. The site provides descriptions and photos of the properties, dates and length of stays, and what the homeowner wants you to do in exchange for staying at their home. MindMyHouse emails listings almost daily, and they are truly from all over the world. Some owners want you to do things like manage multiple Airbnbs or groom their herd of buffalo, but most of them want someone to take care of pets, water plants and keep the house secure. The Net, Cast Wide To be doable, you have to have work that allows you to leave your house for relatively long stretches of time. The Internet has opened the floodgates for such â€Å"solopreneurs.† Both Alice and I have been freelancing out of our home for years. Of course, house-sitting means someone probably has to take care of your home as well. We have a cat who needs attention, as well as a garden, and we’ve found house-sitters on MindMyHouse who have done fine jobs. We wrote a small manual of the idiosyncrasies of our house so that there aren’t any surprises and have made sure the bills are set up to be paid in advance. One sour surprise is when the Internet is spotty in the house-sit home, or worse, out for days at a time. That’s happened to us in the Bahamas, and that didn’t help with some deadlines. However, that does allow for time to engage in travel writing. Look for Angles, Before, During and After Look for story angles in advance to see if there’s any editor interest. I pitched stories about biking to the lava flow on the Big Island and on things to do in Hilo before we spent time there, and later had the pieces published in the Los Angeles Times and the San Jose Mercury News. At the same time, it’s smart- and fun- to be open to story ideas that crop up. When we stayed in the Grenadine Islands, we found out that there’s a rum distillery on St. Vincent and took a private tour there. Haven’t placed that story yet, but I did place a fun one on looking for whiskey on an island of rum. Always have your camera at the ready when you’re out and about, as you’re likely to find sights for your lenses that most short-visit tourists wouldn’t. And I never travel without a notepad, making sure to type up my scrawled notes about people, places and things within a day or two of scrawling them, when my memory is fresh. Your Office Is the World Even if you have to take care of ill or psychologically-damaged pets (a couple of times for us), or a psychologically-damaged owner (once, and that was enough), the opportunities for travel writing as a house-sitter are deep. House-sitting puts you in a great position to see splendid sights- and then set them on the paying page.

An Overview of the Popular Festival of India, Diwali

An Overview of the Popular Festival of India, Diwali India is a country of festivals. People, in India, celebrate festivals from all religions such as Hindu, Muslim, Christian, and Sikh. Therefore, it is like there is at least one festival to celebrate every month. Each festival is celebrated with exhibition and happiness, and each of them has religious or mythological significance behind them. One of the most celebrated of all festivals is Diwali- The festival of lights. It is known as `the festival of light because during this festival each street, house, mall, and store are decorated with colorful lights. It usually comes in October or November. The date is not fixed because it is celebrated according to Hindu calendar. People start the preparations for Diwali about a month before it comes. They clean their houses; and they also decorate their houses with good-looking and decorative things. In addition, they also make some traditional sweets and snacks. Diwali is a five day long festival, and each day has its own tradition and impor tance. First day of Diwali is called `Dhanteras in which `Dhan means wealth and `teras means thirteenth because it falls on the thirteenth day of the month of the Hindu calendar. On this day people worship Lord Yamraj, the God of death. They offer prayers to him to bless them with prosperity, well being, and protection. They also purchase a new utensil, a silver or gold coin or some other precious metal as a sign of good luck on the day of `Dhanteras. The story behind this day is about a 16 years old son of king Hima. His horoscope predicted his death by snake-bite on the fourth day of his marriage, so his newly wedded wife did not let him to sleep. She laid out all her ornaments and lots of gold and silver coins in a stack at the entrance of the sleeping chamber and lit lamps all over the place. Later that night, she narrated stories and sang songs to keep her husband from falling asleep. When Yama, the god of Death, arrived at the princes doorstep in the appearance of a Serpent, his eye s were dazzled and blinded by the brightness of the lamps and the jewelry. Yama could not enter in the princes chamber and went away. Thus, the young prince was saved from the clutches of death by the cleverness of his new bride, and the day came to be celebrated as `Dhanteras. The second day is `Choti Diwali. Choti means `small, and thus Choti Diwali is celebrates just like Diwali only on a smaller scale with lesser lights and lesser fireworks. It is also known as the `Narak Chaturdashi. According to Hindu mythology Lord Krishna destroyed the demon Narakasura on this day. The demon Narakasura was the evil king of Pragjyotishapura, near present-day Assam in India. Narkasuras power made him arrogant, and he became dangerous to everyone and even to the Gods. He empowered the kingdom of Lord Indra, and he imprisoned sixteen thousand daughters of the gods and snatched the earrings of Mother Goddess Aditi, who was also the relative of Satyabhama, Lord Krishnas wife. Satyabhama was really angry about what Narakasur did, so after her request Lord Krishna empowered Satyabhama, and she was able to murder Narakasur by beheading him. She then rescued the sixteen thousand women prisoners from the clutches of Narakasur and even found Mother Goddess Aditis earrings. In order to save the women from embarrassment, Lord Krishna married all the sixteen thousand women and accepted them as His wife. Lord Krishna smeared his forehead with blood as a sign of victory over Narakasur and returned home with his wives on the morning of Choti Diwali. The next day is known as `Diwali. `Laxmi Pooja is one of the most important things in Diwali. Laxmi, the Goddess of light, beauty, good fortune and wealth is worshipped on the occasion of Diwali to bring prosperity in the family. She is also worshiped to achieve success and fortune. Business men also do `Chopda Pujan meaning worshiping of the account books on this day. According to the columnist Deepak Verma from Times of India in some states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, Diwali represents the new business year so all businesses close their accounts and present them to Lakshmi and Ganesh during Chopda Pujan. Moreover, people light up beautiful `diyas (candles) inside and outside of their houses, and everyone enjoys fireworks. The reason behind the celebration of Diwali is because Lord Ram came back to Ayodhya, a town in India and also his home town. He returned on this day after 14 years of exile after his victory against evil Ravan. The king of Lanka (Sri Lanka) Ravan, kidnapped Lord Rams wife (Sita) from the forest, where they were staying as per the instructions of King Dashratha, father of Lord Ram. After then, Ram attacked Lanka and killed Ravan and released Sita from his custody. He returned to Ayodhya with his wife Sita and younger brother Lakshamana after fourteen years. Therefore, the people of Ayodhya decorated their homes and the town itself, by lighting tiny `diyas, in order to welcome their beloved prince Shri Ram. Ram is considered the symbol of good and the positive things and Ravan represents the evil. Therefore, Diwali is considered the festival, which established the victory of good over the evil. On the night of Diwali, people light diyas, which is again an icon of positive energy to conquer darkness. Following day of Diwali is the New Years of Hindus according to the Hindu calendar. People wake up early on this day and usually wear new clothes that are specially bought for this day. Later on, they head to the temple to pray to God for prosperity and good health for themselves and their family. There is always a family get together for the celebration of New Years. Family membranes exchange gifts, thoughts and New Years resolutions. Chhavi Bhatia from Indian Express supposed Diwali gifts [are] replaced by plants and books instead of sweets in 2009. Plants convey the concept of a green Diwali and books are good gesture to encourage the habit of reading. Furthermore, younger kids take the blessings from their elders, as it is considered respectful to the elders. People decorate their houses with `Rangoli which is the design made of different powder colors. Some people also decorate their houses wall with different kind of designs and make the small foot prints on the door steps of their house which resemble Goddess Laxmis foot prints. People also perform `Govardhan Puja on this day. Govardhan Puja is worshipping of the mountain Govardhan which is in the city of Vrindavan in India. Lord Shri Krishna once performed the Govardhan Puja along with the people of Vrindavan for their protection from heavy rains. Since then it became a tradition for Hindus to worship Govardhan to honor that first Puja on this day. They also offer fifty-six different dishes to Govardhan on this day which is called `Chappan Bhog. Lastly, the fifth day of Diwali is known as Bhai Beej Brothers Day, in which sister invites her brother over for dinner. It is called Bhav-Bij in the Marathi-speaking communities, and people in Nepal know this festival by the name of Bhai-Tika. There are various distinct ways in which this beautiful festival is solemnized, but the features that are common in all rituals is the act of smearing a tilak (a holy mark) of roli (vermilion), kesar (saffron) and ric e on the brothers forehead by their sister as a mark of their love and protection. It is considered a big day for the sister, she cooks brothers favorite dishes, and prays to God for her brothers good health and fortune. At the time of dinner, brother presents his sister with a toast and a gift. Bhai Beej is based on an old story written in mythological books over 5000 years old. This day is an auspicious day for both the brother and the sister because it is believed to strengthen their relationship. According to a tale, on this auspicious day of `Bhai Beej Lord Krishna, after slaying the Narakasura demon, goes to his sister Subhadra where she welcomes her brother with a diya (candle), sweets, flowers, and put the holy protective `tilak on his forehead. Keeping this tale in mind, people celebrate the festival of `Bhai Beej with great enthusiasm and dedication. All in all, Diwali is the most celebrated festival in India that unites every Indian with joyous sentiment. Even though it is a five day long festival, celebrations start over a month ago. Everyone enjoys food and fireworks during this festival. People consider this festival very important, and they celebrate it with open heart and happiness. The important events that occurred during the time of Diwali is what created the most enjoyed festival in India. Every day of Diwali has its own significant story and the reason for its celebration. It seems coincidental that every event that occurred fell into one same period which now we know as Diwali. Nevertheless, the coincident seems to be liked greatly by everyone with enthusiasm.

Defining Love in Today's World Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Defining Love in Today's World - Article Example   Emotion is often considered to be the first language of human beings (Lewis & Lannon 13). Before they could converse with one another, humans reacted with expression and feeling. If an injury would cause them pain, they reacted to it; if a child’s laughter touched them, they would express it through emotion. Some emotions may not have been properly understood by those early human beings. Even now, many cultures may have different views on how these emotions should be expressed or what they mean. Love is no exception to this. Love comes in many forms, and therefore has many meanings, which can make it difficult for humans to fully understand. Despite this, it is one of the easiest emotions to display. There is no definitive beginning to the various meanings of love; in the attempt to â€Å"chart the ‘arc of love’ is that, like time, this is a subject resistant to analysis, because its existence is predicated on experience (Vickers 1).† People define love in their own terms and based on their own experiences, though most people can relate to the majority of these meanings. The history of love can only really be traced based on each individual and the love that they have felt for someone or something. This is one of the many characteristics of love that makes it a great and precious emotion - it is copious in its existence and it is steeped in everyone’s personal and unique history. Love is most thought of as the emotion felt between a couple in a serious and romantic relationship, whether they are married or are dating. In this case, love encompasses all the little aspects that keep the couple together. The smiles that are shared that are full of little secrets and that can convey thousands of messages without ever speaking; the experiences and memories that they have from the day they started dating to the present; even all of the little fights and hardships that they went through to get to where they provide evidence of lov e. The fact that they are in love is what enables them to get through hard times. This love can be increased from dating to marriage. Marriage in itself is a physical representation of romantic love between a couple. It is also a way that a couple can share and display their love for friends, family, and to the public. Teenagers and children claim to romantically love their significant other or their playground sweetheart.  Ã‚

A standard op-amp operating without negative feedback can be used as a comparator. When the non-inverting input (V+) is at a higher voltage than the inverting input (V-), the high gain of the op-amp causes it to output the most positive voltage it can. When the non-inverting input (V+) drops below the inverting input (V-), the op-amp outputs the most negative voltage it can. The input voltages must not exceed the power voltage range. Application :- A Flash ADC (also known as a Direct... This results in a bidirectional electronic switch which can conduct current in either direction when it is turned on. It can be turned on by either a positive or a negative voltage being applied to its gate electrode. 3) Computers operate using numbers and therefore there needs to be a way for a computer to convert letters (and other "characters") to and from numbers. A set of codes, known as "ASCII" (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) are used. These were initially developed for tasks such as sending documents to printers, and many of the commands make sense in this context. Suppose the number to be printed is (in binary) 01101100; the first step is to convert this into decimal; the answer is 108; this would be represented in the computer by the BCD codes of 0001, 0000, and 1000 (their Hex values of course are 1, 0 and 8). If text is being stored in a computer, it is usually stored as a string (a series of ASCII characters, each one of which is stored as one byte). The formatting characters such as space, carriage return and line feed may be included in the string. Suppose, for example, we wished to store the string Hello world! Including the space between the words, this has 12 characters. It would then be stored (writing the binary in hex) as 6) CMOS devices can

Wedding Toasts to the Bride and Groom :: Wedding Toasts Roasts Speeches

Wedding Toasts to the Bride and Groom The Upper Hand The following tidbit began a wonderful and personal toast to the bride and groom: "John, take Emily's hand and place your hand over her's. Now, remember this moment and cherish it... because this will be the last time you'll ever have the upper hand!" Toilet Roll Let us all hope and pray that your married life is like this toilet roll - soft, strong and ever so long. Never Lie, Cheat, and Drink May you never lie, cheat or drink. But if you must lie, lie with each other. And if you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink with us for we all love you and wish you both the love and happiness of which you deserve. Let Us Toast Let us toast the health of the bride, let us toast the health of the groom, let us toast the priest who tied. And I'd personally like to toast every guest in the room." Swear, Steal, Lie May you swear, steal, and lie. Swear by all that's good and true. Steal away your cares and sorrows. And lie in the arms of the one you love. Live as long as you want May you both live as long as you want and never want as long as you live. Today's Love May the love you express to each other today, always be the first thoughts during any trying times in the future. Love that Grows I see the love you both have in each other's eyes and as your love grows for one another, may you look back on this day and know this is when you loved each other the least. Leave It To The Expert I'll be toasting the bride and groom with Shakespeare's sonnets. Shakespeare's sonnet 18 for the bride Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date: Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimm'd; And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd; But thy eternal summer shall not fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest; Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou growest: So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this and this gives life to thee. Comparing Propaganda Used in Animal Farm Essay

Comparing Propaganda Used in Animal Farm to the Russian Revolution’s Propaganda â€Å"Propaganda is a narrowly selfish attempt to get people to accept ideas and beliefs, always in the interest of a particular person or group and with little or no advantage to the public (â€Å"What is Propaganda†¦ 2). Propaganda is the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person. In the Russian Revolution Joseph Stalin used propaganda to his benefit and used it to usurp the people of Russia. Also how Napoleon used propaganda to his benefit and to usurp the animals of Animal Farm. Napoleon got Boxer to follow him and Boxer helped spread the propaganda, but Squealer was the propaganda itself (Orwell, George 56). Much like how, Joseph Stalin got common people to follow him and he got them to spread it. Fear, transfer, and pinpointing the enemy are three propaganda techniques that are shared by the novel Animal Farm a nd the Russian Revolution. The first propaganda technique is fear and it is used to scare the animals of Animal Farm. Napoleon uses fear by holding purges in which he accuses the animals of treason and kills anyone who confesses to working with Snowball. In the same way, Joseph Stalin uses fear by holding executions in which he accuses his enemies for crimes and forces them to admit to false confessions and then executes them (Background information†¦Ã¢â‚¬ 4). The executions are called the Great Terror of 1936 to 1939 and millions of people were killed (Joseph Stalin†¦ 1). Another similarity is how the dogs used fear to force the animals to work and in the Russian Revolution, the secret police forced support for Joseph Stalin. The dogs would also intimidate or threaten any animal who stood in Napoleon’s way. The KGB or secret police would use force and would kill anyone for disobedience (Lamont, George J. 1). The second propaganda technique that is used is transfer. In Animal Farm, all of the animals are equal and that is what they call Animalism. Likewise, all people are equal in Communism, which is what was used during the Russian Revolution. In Animalism, the Animals own the farm and in Communism, the government owns everything and the people own the government (Lamont, George J. 1). Another similarity is that the  raven Moses tells the animals of Animal Farm about a place called Sugar Candy Mountain and that is where all animals go when they die (Orwell, George 17). Allegorically, this represents the Russian Orthodox religion during the Russian Revolution. When the pigs let Moses stay when he returns represents how Joseph Stalin used the Russian Orthodox Church as a way to raise funds for the Russian war effort during World War II (â€Å"George Orwell†¦ 1†). The third and final propaganda technique is pinpointing the enemy. In the book Animal Farm, Mr. Jones is cruel towards the animals and in the Russian Revolution; Czar Nicholas II is brutal with his opponents. Mr. Jones also abused and neglected his animals and Czar Nicholas II would let his people starve and was a bad leader (Lamont, George J. 2). During the Battle of the Cowshed, Mr. Jones tries to regain control of Animal Farm and that represents the Russian Civil War in which the Western capitalist governments sent soldiers to try to remove the Bolsheviks from power (George Orwell Links†¦ 1). Another example of pinpointing the enemy is how Napoleon blames Animal Farm’s mishaps on Snowball and told the animals that he was the enemy. In the Russian Revolution, Joseph Stalin feared that the Trotsky supporters would try to assassinate him and he was also afraid of Trotsky gaining power. Napoleon thought of Snowball as a threat and drove him off of the farm and that represents Trotsky being exiled to Mexico (â€Å"Background information†¦ 16†). Then Joseph Stalin shunned Trotsky from the Soviet Union and then eventually had him killed (â€Å"Joseph Stalin†¦ 1†). Fear, transfer, and pinpointing the enemy are the three propaganda techniques that were talked about in this research paper. Fear is used to make a particular action occur or a consequence will result of disobedience. Transfer is used to make an attempt to make the subject view a certain item in the same way as they view another item to link the two subjects in the mind. Pinpointing the enemy is used to resolve a conflict by presenting a person or group as the enemy. Therefore, the propaganda that was used during the Russian Revolution and Animal Farm had greatly impacted the people of Russia and the animals of Animal Farm. A Personal Revolt Against The Rising Rape Culture Essay

PREFACE This project begun as a personal revolt against the rising rape culture and sexual assaults in India when three of my closest female friends got sexually assaulted in Delhi this May. These were young financially independent and headstrong women yet they felt completely powerless after this event and could not report it. This normality around rape and assault led me to probe into the root cause and cultural implications around it. SUMMARY It started with a simple aim of sensitizing Indian youth about gender violence with an aim to contribute in ceasing the rising rape culture in India. The multiple theories around the cause for gender-based violence were studied and tapered around Indian context. This project therefore is an intersection of various disciplines including; sociology, creative art forms, communication techniques and social psychology. Sociology social psychology in this context analyzed the culturally ingrained belief that men have unquestionable rights over women. On the other hand creative art forms were researched as powerful vehicle for establishing personal connection with this issue. â€Å"How can provocative communication methods alter imbibed social psychology to instigate gender sensitization in creative Indian youth? † The project proposes to start a series of inclusive gender sensitivity workshops for creative youth that helps them to personally reflect on gender disparity concerns in India.
